The apps we recommend for each kind of device. All of them are free unless noted in the setup guide.

Never install the Emby app from the Play Store or App Store; it asks for an Emby Premiere purchase you don't need. The movies and series guide explains why.
TV app or streaming box?
An app on the TV itself is the simplest setup: one remote, no extra input. It's a good start if the app is available and the TV still gets software updates.
A separate streaming box usually has a wider choice of apps, newer video formats and longer software support than an older TV. It's also the only way to run our preconfigured TiviMate build, which needs Fire TV, Android TV or Google TV.
- Check the app exists on your exact TV model before you subscribe.
- Expect older TVs to get app updates less often.
- Try the remote: moving around the guide and turning on subtitles should feel easy.
Buying a streaming device
If you're buying a device for Paragon, a current Fire TV, Google TV or Android TV box covers every service: TiviMate for live TV and Moonfin for movies and series.
- Network: Ethernet, or Wi-Fi 5 / Wi-Fi 6 with a good signal where the TV is. 4K remuxes need a steady connection more than a fast one.
- Formats: for 4K HDR, check the box supports the formats your TV does (HDR10, Dolby Vision) and your sound system's audio formats.
- Storage: leave room for app updates and the TV guide cache.
Don't buy on headline resolution alone. App support and format support matter more day to day.
